Banks as financial institutions play a crucial role in the functioning of any financial system. It is the backbone of any economy. Banks as financial intermediaries address the varied needs of clients by mobilization of their savings and by providing credit facilities. The banking sector which dates back its history from Vedic civilization has evolved over the period. The advancements in internet technology have led to a transition from traditional banking to e-banking. 
This course allows students to gain a comprehensive understanding of Indian banking system. This course offers an in-depth exploration of various banking functions, including deposit, lending, investment, and risk management. Through this course, students will gain insights into the role of banks in the economy, the regulatory framework governing banking activities, and emerging trends shaping the banking industry. Additionally, learners will explore key concepts such as interest rates, online banking and banking products, equipping them with the knowledge necessary to navigate the dynamic landscape of modern banking.
The course is divided into four units.  Unit one discusses the concept, evolution, structure, and functions of banking and banker-customer relationships. Unit two discusses the regulatory framework with respect to Indian Banking. Unit three gives clarity on various products and services of Banking. The last unit gives in-depth knowledge on the role of technology and associated risks in banking. Case studies are used to illustrate how these banks cater to various financial needs of the customers.

Dr. Akasha Sandhu

The NorthCap University

Dr. Akasha Sandhu is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the School of Management & Liberal Studies, The NorthCap University. She holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Guru Nanak Dev University. She has done her MBA (Finance and Marketing) with distinction from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; Dr. Sandhu has also qualified UGC NET JRF in Management. Her professional career is a blend of Industry and Academics. She is passionate about Academics and Research. Her research interests includes Corporate Governance, Board Gender diversity, Corporate Internet Reporting and Disclosure Practices. She has published research papers in National and International peer reviewed journals indexed in Scopus/ABDC/UGC Care. She has participated and presented research papers in International conferences and seminars.
