To study the financial management, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the basic concepts and theories. A good starting point is to read this Self Learning Material, followed by textbook and learning management system (LMS) on the subject, which will provide a comprehensive overview of the principles of finance. It is also helpful to read case studies that illustrate how these principles are applied in real-world situations. Taking notes and creating summaries of the key concepts and ideas can help with retention and understanding. Additionally, practice solving MCQs, critical thinking and analysis when reviewing the material can help develop a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of finance. Finally, discussing the fundamentals with others, such as classmates or professors, can help reinforce understanding and provide different perspectives on the subject matter.

To study this course, ideally you shall know the concept and its relevance followed by its emergence as a discipline. Unit one is about the concept, relevance, emergence, fundamentals of financial management, Unit two discussed the ratio analysis, capitalization along with capital structure. Unit three gives clarity on the concept of both long term and short-term sources of finance. The last unit gives in depth knowledge on working capital management, receivables management, cash management along with inventory and inventory management techniques.  The syllabus is evenly distributed across all units.

Dr. Preeti Chawla

The NorthCap University
Dr. Preeti Chawla is faculty in Finance and Accounting area with more than Seventeen years of work experience. Currently she is Associate Professor,serving as MBA Coordinator and Admissions Coordinator handling all UG and PG admissions at School of Management, The North Cap University, Gurgaon. Prior to this she has served in International College of Financial Planning, New Delhi heading MBA in Financial Planning, Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Mohali Chandigarh, S D College of Management Israna, Panipat and SDPG College and IB College, Panipat. She has done her doctorate in Mutual Funds, Finance from NIT, Kurukshetra. Her topic of research is Mutual Fund which is so critical in today’s capital markets. She brings with her a total of 17 plus years of experience in the education sector in the Teaching & Training field.

She is a double postgraduate, i.e., MBA in Finance and HR and M. Com with marketing subjects. She is double net qualified both in Management and Commerce. She has more than 55 publications to her credit and her research papers and case studies have been published in journals of international and national repute including the journals listed in Scopus, Web of Science, UGC CARE Listed and  ABDC Journals list. She has actively participated in more than 64 International/National conferences to present her work. Currently she is guiding three research scholars under her guidance. She has also written and published number of papers on role of finance on Indian and world economy. Her blogs and articles on key financial, economics and academic areas have been published in times his society india.mystrkingingly.com, college dunia and shiksha.com. She has attended and organized various workshops on Research Methodology, Case Study Development, Quality Education, Curriculum Development etc. She has also received 4 grants for organizing webinar by National Commission for Women, New Delhi. She has also been invited as a resource person in various FDPs which were sponsored by AICTE, New Delhi, ICSSR and UGC. She is on the editorial board in 3 reputed journals. She herself conducted two consultancy projects in different companies by providing the awareness of financial literacy to more than 75 employees & workers.

She has also received “Best Teacher Award” for the academic year 2016-17 at International College of Financial Planning, ITO, New Delhi. She has also published two patents in her name. She published one textbook on Financial Management and one edited book i.e., in the field of Entrepreneurship: The Catalyst for Economic Growth. She was coordinator of four international conferences held in Chandigarh Group of Colleges & The North Cap University, Gurgaon. She has also chaired sessions at various conferences. Her area of interest includes include Banking, Mutual Funds, Entrepreneurship, Management, Education, and Corporate Finance.
